The Musée national du château de Compiègne owns 18 plates from this service. [CAT. EX. 18], p. 72-73.
Napoleon III’s first order to Christofle was in 1852, making the company Official silversmith supplier to the Emperor, as King Louis-Philippe firstly did around 1842-1843. But Napoleon III was the first to order big silver pieces for his table services, like the impressive surtout delivered to the Tuileries in 1856, in honour of France, making the Second Empire the Golden Age for the famous company.
